Peru

In 2003, MAPS International became licensed to process adoptions in Peru, a mountainous country on the west coast of South America. Because this is a relatively new program for MAPS, we are in need of pioneer-spirited families who have a strong desire to welcome a child from Peru into their lives. There are currently many waiting children, mainly over age five, as well as sibling groups in need of loving homes. This is an ideal program for families interested in adopting an older child or children. Length of time between referral and travel is unusually short, usually less than thirty days.

At A Glance

Parent Requirements: Couples 25-40 may request a child under 3 years, 41-50 may request children 4-6 years, 51-55 must be open to children 7 years and older. Single women may request a child of 5+ years or a younger child with special needs.

Children: Healthy toddlers and older children. Occasional sibling groups and children with special needs.

Waiting Time: Child referral (infants and toddlers) is approximately 12-18 months after dossier is submitted to MIMDES. Referral of children 5 years and up and sibling groups is generally 4-5 months after dossier submission. Travel approx. 2 weeks after acceptance of child referral.

Travel: Both parents must travel but one may return one week early, after completion of the Peru adoption process. Total trip is approx. 3-4 weeks. Travel expenses approx. $3,500 plus child’s ticket and visa.
